#tbt – UNH Playlist Part One

This past weekend I got to catch up with some of my dearest friends from college.  They surprised me with dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Boston, Carrie Nation (if you’ve never been I highly recommend the hazelnut encrusted goat cheese salad), to wish me well on my move to Mississippi.  It was one of the most special nights I’ve had in a long time catching up with amazing friends over good food and hearing about all the amazing things that everyone is doing with their lives.  Needless to say by the time I left my stomach hurt from laughing and my heart was bursting after seeing these special ladies.

It got me thinking about my time spent at the University of New Hampshire and much of it was built around good music.  Setting the tone for all the girls to get ready on a Friday night, taking long drives to our favorite coffee hut blasting the newest music we’d found, the perfect playlist to study in the library on Sunday, it was always in the background keeping our memories strong.  I took a poll and asked the girls to send me songs that reminded them most of our days at UNH so here’s our throwback UNH Playlist Part I….

Feature Friday – This Week In Country

Usually I’ll focus on one particular artist each Friday to put the spotlight on however this week was bursting with such great music, new releases, and all around greatness coming from the country music corner that I decided to roll it all into one great playlist!

Let’s start with our boy Dustin Lynch.  He came out of the gate swinging with “Cowboys and Angels” on his debut album and has finally released his follow up album with the hit title single “Where It’s At“.  Lynch has the charm of an old school country crooner like George Strait with a modern twist.  His sophomore album does not disappoint as he takes some risks and steps a little outside the box while keeping true to his classic roots.

Next we have newcomers Maddie & Tae.  They’ve shaken up the country world with the song “Girl In A Country Song” that takes a stab at how women have been depicted in county music by men lately (basically not having a voice at all).  These girls take charge and have a hilarious video to boot with this single.  I can’t help but love outspoken girls who like to ruffle some feathers!

From there we jump to Chase Bryant, a good ole’ Texas boy who was raised in a family of musicians. This super talented guitarist/writer is just 21 and his single “Take It On Back” is an example of how talented this soon to be star is.  Be on the lookout for his debut album.

Now, Scotty McCreery is no stranger to success.  After winning American Idol his career in the country music industry took off.  His newest single “Feelin’ It” is a bit more beachy and laid back (think Jake Owen mixed with Josh Turner) than his classic country style but fans are reacting and loving it.  I have to say I agree.

Finally we end with Canaan Smith.  Another amazing song writer behind some of Jason Aldean and Love and Theft’s hits that is now breaking out on his own.  His single “Love You Like That” is catchy and upbeat with just enough grit to tie him to his country roots.
